Homework information

The timetable in your child’s planner will indicate which group your child is in so, together with your child, you can work out when his/her teachers are planning to set homework.
Notes on individual subjects:
Core RS – students are set homework once every 3 weeks
Core PE – there is no homework set for this subject
Languages – due to the nature of language learning, students are set homework more frequently, but each will be shorter.
Subjects taught elsewhere – homework will be set and collected on Tuesdays.

We have endeavoured to evenly spread the homework load across the week, however, there are times when the subject timetable means that teachers can only set homework on a particular night. Although this may mean that your child is set more homework on one night, teachers will allow 2 or more nights before the homework is due, and so we would like students to use their initiative to plan their week in order to get a balance of homework on each night.  As a guide, students in Year 10 and 11 should be spending approximately 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours per day on their homework.
This homework timetable is a guide for parents, students and teachers, enabling all of us to plan for productive learning at home. However, planning for progression in learning is a complex art and so there may be occasions when teachers will need to deviate from this timetable. Similarly there may be times when your child is completing a piece of coursework over a number of weeks and so at KS4 we expect students to be developing their own time-management skills. If this occurs, teachers will give students reasonable deadlines for completing their work.
If students need support with completing their homework, Learning Support is open on every lunchtime (except Tuesdays) where students can get help from our Teaching Assistants. The school library is also open to students every lunchtime and after school on Mondays – Thursday until 4.45pm and Friday until 3.45pm.
If you have any concerns about your child’s homework, please contact their subject teacher or form tutor via email or by phone.
