Music at LVC

The music department provides concerts and extra curricular opportunities in a full range of musical activities. It boasts a large and successful wind band which has toured Spain and Italy several times; a Pop Choir, which performs annually in Belgium or France; two more senior choirs; a brass ensemble; a guitar group; a Samba band; a jazz group and various ad hoc ensembles.

As a department we also support and encourage students to form their own rock bands. Instrumental music examinations are held bi-annually within the department as are theory of music examinations, for which students are prepared by the Director of Music.

The department has enough computers to enable us to teach music technology and we are in the process of creating a recording studio.

Drama at LVC

Drama is now part of the KS3 curriculum with all Year 7 pupils sharing a carousel with music and art. Lessons are given for half the year in year 8. In Year 9, pupils have one lesson every week throughout the year. They will be taught the basic skills of mime and movement, body language and gesture which leads to still images and on to improvisation, allowing for flair and creativity as pupils explore various themes through the medium of drama.

Drama is also offered as an option at GCSE level with results being particularly pleasing over the past six years. In addition, there are extra-curricular opportunities with an after-school club on Mondays during term-time and an annual school production which alternates between the school play and a variety show.

Drama is taught in the Drama Studio or the Dance Studio.
