Music at LVC
The music department provides concerts and extra curricular opportunities in a full range of musical activities. It boasts a large and successful wind band which has toured Spain and Italy several times; a Pop Choir, which performs annually in Belgium or France; two more senior choirs; a brass ensemble; a guitar group; a Samba band; a jazz group and various ad hoc ensembles.
As a department we also support and encourage students to form their own rock bands. Instrumental music examinations are held bi-annually within the department as are theory of music examinations, for which students are prepared by the Director of Music.
The department has enough computers to enable us to teach music technology and we are in the process of creating a recording studio.
Drama at LVC
The Drama Curriculum at LVC is geared at developing student’s emotional intelligence, social ability and presentational skills. Students learn how to use storytelling techniques in order to structure a performance.
Drama is offered as an option at GCSE level with results being particularly pleasing over the past six years. Drama students have the opportunity to become live theatre critics whilst they watch a West End Theatre show in London.
The rehearsals for the Whole School Musical happen on Monday and Friday’s after school, in the hall, from 3:05- 4:30pm. The enrichment activity is supported by student leaders that have successfully set up a backstage production crew.
The Drama Department offers additional support for students written documentary responses to practical workshops, on Thursdays, from 3:05-4:00pm, in the Drama Studio.
